Smells like Teen Spirit is one of the most inconic songs of all time, and the video has over 100,000,000 views on Youtube. Stereotypically, the entire video is set in one location (a studio) and focus' mainly on the band it self. This is common for bands, specifically rock/indie/grunge to do as they are more about the music than the image sometimes.
Costume
The band wear the same costume throughout the entire video. This is means the video feels more authentic as they're all wearing casual clothes, and that the band would have chosen this, rather than a big management team. As their target audience are young people (you can see the 'audience' in the video it strongly links back to them as Kurt's clothing choice is something a young person would wear which connects him to his audience.
Setting & Location
The entire video is set in a studio. Although this could possibly limit the band, a lot is happening in the studio to make the video crazy.
Beside the camera focusing on the band and Kurt, around them is an 'audience' watching, and then it goes insane and people are jumping around and dancing and there are cheerleaders and smoke machines. This all links to the song itself Teen Spirit and acting young, which is exactly what Kurt is doing.
