Analysing Three Music Videos

Liberty X - Just a Little

The music video for Just a Little Bit by Liberty X, although far sexier and featuring much skimpier attire than our own music video, is very much like ours in both premise and style. It follows the traditional trend in situation and clothing, with dark rooms, corridors and completely black clothing. There are lots of red lasers like the classic heist movies, going for a more dramatic and generic, or cheesy style than our music video is going to, which is both down to the fact that we have absolutely no budget available, and also the fact that everybody in our group has actual taste and knows that this is just in poor taste, for proof of our taste, see the waving lady on the blog.

Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor

'DAWN'T BLEEV T'HYPE!'

I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor is a completely performance based video, and it is a mouthful, so I will refer to it as I Bet You. The video is very raw, which is largely because of the informal tone and the poor quality of the camera. The song is also performed live instead of being overlayed on the video itself, which is something we won't be doing, although we are going to be immitating the Arctic Monkeys, we also will not be including dialogue like this video does, although I can do a mean northern accent and say 'Dawn't bleev t'hype'. The performers are all wearing very casual clothing throughout, and you could easily believe that they have just turned up and started playing the moment they arrived, although their costumes would probably have been finely tuned. This matches their image of indie rock and it comes across in the video, the costumes, props, setting and most importantly the song.

Hoobastank - The Reason

The video of The Reason by the poorly name Hoobastank is the perfect balance of what our group is going for. It tells a narrative of the robbery of a jewelry store, but also has a variety of shots of the band performing the song interjected between shots, which is exactly what we are going to be trying to do. The band is wearing clothing that is completely wrong for a heist unfortunately so we will not be following fashion tips from our pals at Hoobastank, but the way in which the job is carried out is perfect, being able to be clear even with the performance shots being included in between the story moments which could easily ruin the story if done wrong. The setting and props are perfect too, with a safe and jewelry store being included, as well as the right instruments for the song to be played on, which we hope to be able to replicate, as the Arctic Monkeys and Hoobastank are in very similar genres with probably the same instruments.
