My Own Response to the Roughcut

While we already have feedback from our teachers and on Tuesday will be getting some feedback from people in our target audience, I thought I would just post on what I thought about it and what I think needs fixing. Here was our rough cut:

While overall I am happy with it and think it has turned out pretty much how we planned and wanted it to, there are a number of things that we need to work on. For starters, the beginning. The beginning of the song is slow and we found it a little harder to edit for the slow paced part of the song. Also only one member of the band is performing at this point so while in the rough cut we have cuts to like Ellie moving her hair or just sitting there looking bored, I think we will need to change these in the final edit to something that looks more appropriate and professional. Another problem with the beginning is that as the pace picks up we attempted to have our editing quicken as well but for whatever reason it looks wrong. I think because the cuts aren't in time with the beat of the song, so this is another part we will look to fixing. Our teacher also mentioned this as something that needs to be fixed as well as the shot of the diamond which she said either needs to be shorter or longer because it looks out of place, which I agree with.

Another feature from the rough cut myself and my group want to change is the colour effects we have used. One of the first things we did (which was a mistake looking back on it) was to edit the colours of our base tracks. We don't like the colours now and are probably going to make the whole thing, or at least part of it, black and white, as we had originally planned. So we will be taking off the effects we already put on and either re-editing the colours or making it black and white.

One final point is I think we maybe repeat shots a little much and personally I'd like to use a little more slow motion. I think all these changes will be doable with the time we have left so I'd say we are on track to finish our music video the way we want to.
