So far, while filming, I think our idea and how it has come out on camera has largely remained the same, coming out exactly how we want it to. I have noticed that our filming is looking very similar to some other music videos that are out there, which I think is brilliant, so I am going to go through and talk about which videos I see similarities with and where I see them! Yay!
First up is actually my favourite song and music video from 2013, 'Reflektor' by one of my favourite bands - Arcade Fire, who I have liked for a staggering four weeks. The video is abstract, but surprisingly narrative. I see similarities in the way in which the video has it's characters wearing black, heist like clothing, just like our band is going to be doing in the narrative portion of our music video. Reflektor also uses a lot of shiny imagery, although not necessarily diamond imagery, it uses reflektive (see what I did there?) imagery, such as the shiny coffin made of CDs, the scary reflective man and the disco ball. The song itself talks of this, using phrases such as 'the reflective age', just like our video talks of diamonds which are feature of the song, and how they 'sparkle'.
Secondly, it reminds me of the song 'Diamonds' by Rihanna, who on the other hand is not one of my favourite musicians. This video uses a lot of diamond imagery, which is completely understandable due to the fact that the song is about, y'know, diamonds! There are lots of close ups of heaping piles of diamonds and although we aren't capable of attaining that many diamonds, we do have close ups and interaction with diamonds in the same way as Rihanna. Our's are bigger too so that's a real plus for us, who says size doesn't matter?
In conclusion over the last year there have been some music videos that have been clearly comparable to our music video, which is good because it shows that people in 'the industry' have similar ideas to us, showing just how bloody good we are at coming up with ideas!
