Analysing 3 Digipaks + Advertisements

I chose three different artists from three different genre's so I could compare
how each artist and genre go about delivering their merch & music to their fans.

1.
Humbug - Arctic Monkeys [Indie]
I chose the Arctic Monkeys album Humbug because they're very similar to The Jewellers so we can take themes and conventions from them to inspire our digipak.
The Arctic Monkeys themselves don't tend to feature in their merch, instead they use graphics or images which emphasise their 'indie' look.
For colouring, they've used 2/3 colours and kept the pattern throughout the booklet and CD. The base colour is beige, and the logo & CD have a red theme. The text inside the booklet is all black.

They also have a song on the album called:
'The Jeweller's hands' = fate

Overall: Very simplistic and obvious for an indie band.

2.
Marshall Mathers LP - Eminem [Rap]

I chose the Eminem album The Marshall Mathers LP because hip-hop/rap always have a unique way approaching their synergy and artwork. Depending on the artist the artwork can be strange and I like to draw inspiration from the more urban/artistic side in contrast to indie digipaks which tend to be very 1-dimensional.
In this case, Eminem features in a lot of his digipak. He is on the front and back and the same style is kept (black and white).
Inside the CD is black and white, but the booklet is much more colourful.
Inside the booklet, there is a number of pictures of Eminem which links back to his old life and childhood, which connects to the theme of the album itself (music wise).

Overall: Strong urban feel / Nostalgic / Personal

3.
Bon Iver - Bon Iver [Folk/Alternative]

I chose Bon Iver because in terms of simplicity, this group takes the cake. The running theme throughout their albums is the colour white, and pictures with a theme of nature. For this album, it's no different to any of their other LP's or EP's.
The cover is similar to their other albums Blood Bank and For Emma, Forever Ago. All have a focus picture and in their cases, the name of the album. None of the albums feature any pictures of the band whatsoever.
This contrasts to Humbug which did feature the band, so the Arctic Monkeys have been out-indied.
The CD case itself is a 3 part. (I don't know the technical word for that) and when opened you can see the main font used.
The colours used are scarce. White & red are the main two, white for the base colour and red for the CD and inner cover; as well as black for the font.
The font is in a handwritten theme which I suppose is to make the album appear more personal

Overall: Very basic, very Bon Iver

Adverts

Unfortunately I've chosen quite old CD's for the images so there aren't many adverts online or around that I can link. However, I've found adverts for the artists newer EP's and LP's that I can mirror with the images, so fear not.

1.
AM - Arctic Monkeys
This is the Arctic Monkeys 2013 album. I've already spoken about this album earlier as we based The Jewellers on the Arctic Monkeys, and obviously our chosen song.
This simplicity for a cover mirrors Humbug as it has a single image, however, it doesn't have the name of the band, whereas Humbug did.

Promo

The poster on the left is at Old Street Station. You can see the Album Cover take the centre of the poster and the band name at the top. The Band name features in the poster probably because its a public poster, and a lot of the public might not have a clue what AM or the frequency wave means.
The colour scheme is the same, plain monochrome.
On the right is a smaller but weirder poster. There's colours which is different, but the logo and name is still
there.

Trailer
This isn't a trailer, If they made one for AM I havn't found it, however, this was the video release from their debut single off AM. It also features the album cover in the video which is a perfect use of synergy.

2.
Marshall Mathers LP2 - Eminem
This album was Eminem's 2013 follow-up to the Mashall Mathers LP.
This album is extremely similar, both musically and artistically.
The album cover is similar as they both feature forgotten houses, although Eminem doesn't feature in the cover.
The signature logo in in the corner along with the number #2.

Promo

On the left you can see the album poster in the tube station. The poster doesn't feature the album cover, instead a promotional photo of Eminem himself. The logo is at the top, and the album plug below that. The same can be said for the poster on the right. The only difference is the Guy Fawkes poem/line announcing the date of release.

Trailer

This trailer features synergy connecting this to the album cover as Eminem himself visits his old house that is the setting of the album. It also links the music itself, giving it the nostalgic feeling as a lot of the verses are about his past and childhood.
3.
Bon iver - Bon iver
I really couldn't find any kind of promotion or advertisement for this album, or group in general. I think this basically links to the group itself, very low key and simple.

Promo
I did find this though! hoorah
