One of the video's we looked at was Hoobastank - The Reason, as it's heavily based on a diamond theft too. Here i've made a short video comparing some of our shots to the shots in Hoobastank's video to show a similarity between the two.
The links between the diamonds, CCTV and blueprints are natural for the theme of both videos which explains why they would be similar.
In the Indie-Rock genre there are many shots of the band playing as a whole and separately, I've showed how we made use of the band members in relation to how Hoobastank has. Although, we show more band shots than them as we focus half and half on storyline and introducing the members, whereas they focus a lot more on the storyline to their video.
Vernallis' theory mentions how videos cut in time to the music and create a story to draw attention to the band and the video. In my video we used a lot of cutting to the beat, the shots of 4 are in time with the guitar and each cut is in time with the beat of the song, this is effective in keeping the pace of our video, we also think it makes it quite edgy and allows it to flow like a normal video from that genre.
Goodwin talks about three different focuses in a video, we used the Amplification method in which you add to the lyrics with imagery, this is done by us showing lots of shots of the diamonds in relation to the words 'Diamonds are forever'
As I researched other artists in a similar genre, I looked at their album covers and designs, a perfect example of what I based my work on is Franz Ferdinand, their cover is very very plain and simple, it get's to the point. I did that by just showing my synergy image (diamond in comparison to their arrows) and the album name and band name, I also used very dark colours like they did in order to make the important aspects stand out.
Another example for the poster work was Arctic Mokeys in terms of colour and simplicity.
Overall I think that we didn't particularly challenge the conventions of real media products in this genre, but embraced it. We wanted to create something that the usual audience would appreciate and enjoy instead of having that chance that they wont like it. We used a dark theme and created content which we have seen work before in other videos in order to keep ours likeable, we also made it look quite professional in my opinion which I think really helped with the reactions of the video.
