Analysis of Original Video

We were recommended to find a song without a music video, or a music video with a very low number of views. Once we had the short-list of our final songs we picked:
Diamonds Are Forever - The Arctic Monkeys (Cover)

This song doesn't have a music video but there is a studio version of the cover and there are videos of that on YouTube, along with recordings of the band performing live:

The red boxes are over the videos with the highest amount of views. The live version at Glastonbury has the highest amount at just under 250,000 but we aren't using that version.

The version we're using has just under 200,000 views, which, in modern day viewing figures isn't very high at all.

How Our Video Will Differ

Because we don't have anything to compare our video to, it will be an entirely new experience for the audience, and will also allow us to start on a blank canvas of ideas. We will use the synergy of diamonds to play of the song and have a narrative of a diamond heist.

Props/Items for the Music Video (That could be used)

These are just a few items that we could incorporate into the Music Video.

The Cushion

For our music video we're planning to have a diamond resting on a (preferably) red cushion in the background of the band shots.

This is a red cushion from my house that I think would look pretty dandy with a diamond on it.

Costume

This hoodie is from the Diamond (DMND) company. It's not a very well known brand but it is successful. This would mean some of our audience wouldn't know that the hoodie is from a popular brand and would just think it was a subtle clothing choice, however, others would possibly know that it was a brand.

A nice little subtle diamond on the sleeve. There could be a shot in the music video of this because it's not too in the audience's face and we would be next to the diamond in the background on the cushion

The Jewelers' Audience

We asked some people who fit the criteria of our fanbase to answer some interesting questions which have been provided to us lovingly by Rebecca. I approached several of my own friends as I know several Arctic Monkeys fans and therefore they would easily fit the criteria provided for The Jewelers.

Pitch Review & Thoughts

My Slides
I had four slides out of the seventeen. We all shared the slides out equally to present. Mine where:

  • Our initial idea
  • Costume
  • Goodwins Theory
  • Social Media

Response From The Audience & Feedback

The reaction from the class was surprisingly great, nothing against the class, theyre a great bunch of young, spirited, promising souls; but the clapping for our Animatic, Goanimate and presentation overall was very nice of them.
Rebecca's reaction was also lovely and Group 10 (The Jewelers) are now ready to seize our Music Video.

Other Groups Slides Compared to Ours

I thought the other groups slides were really good, much more organized than ours. I felt what we lacked in organization we made up for in more subtle things, as we had

  • Dramatic/Moving classical music to guide us and the audience through our pitch whilst giving us inspiration
  • Animations to keep the audience on their toes
  • Images. Although I would complain to google for bringing up the Australian Dancer instead of the really wise Andrew Goodwin. He is mysterious
  • A phenomenal Animatic (produced by maria)
  • A magical Risk Assessment presented on Goanimate

How I Thought I Went

Overall I thought our pitch went really well, and I'm really happy with Group 10. I think we make a great team. Dandy.

Diamond Prop

I have a Diamond (made of glass) which we will use at the prop in our video. I have a few more little ones of it too which we will use to sparkle around the set.
